PURSUE: what is really in the 270 UAP documents
Between 8 May and 18 September 2026 the Pentagon published 270 PDF documents on UAP in six releases. We read every one of them, page by page, and sorted them into three tiers: the ones that matter, background material and the ones to set aside. Every quote links to its page in the official PDF.
Why PURSUE. It stands for “Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters”, the name under which the US Department of War publishes declassified UAP documents on its official page war.gov/UFO. The six releases analysed here came out between 8 May and 18 September 2026.
In brief
- 270 PDFs, 11,268 pages in releases 01–06 of the PURSUE programme, published on war.gov between 8 May and 18 September 2026. We read them all: 8,779 already had text, 2,488 were scans and went through OCR, and only one could not be read.
- 64 relevant (2,383 pages), 197 background (8,566 pages), 9 set aside (319 pages).
- 96 documents carry at least one verbatim quote, with its page number and a link to the official PDF.
- 182 media files (video, photos and audio) from the same releases are only listed by the government and are not analysed here.
- The “155,000 pages” that made headlines in early October are not a Pentagon release: they are an archive built by the New York Times from documents from seven countries. This page covers only the 270 official PURSUE PDFs.
Method
Source. Only the official PDFs published on war.gov/UFO in releases 01–06. We downloaded every one, 270 out of 270, and counted their pages.
Reading. We extracted the text of every page. Where a PDF had no text, as with scans, we recovered it with OCR (optical character recognition), redoing some difficult pages at a higher resolution. We used artificial intelligence tools to read and classify the documents, then checked every quote against the text of the PDF page it cites.
Quotes. They are reproduced word for word, in the original English, including the typos of the scans and the OCR: we do not correct them. Next to each quote we say where it comes from: the PDF text, our OCR, or our OCR redone at 400 dpi. Only one document (341_110677) has no extractable text: its quotes were transcribed by eye from the page image, and we say so.
The three tiers. Relevant: a concrete UAP sighting or investigation with substantial data: sensors, several witnesses, a military or official assessment. Background: context: programmes, policy, correspondence, studies, administration, images without text, thin reports (a single witness, one line in a mission report). Set aside: duplicates, unreadable files, documents that are not about UAP or are not relevant. The reason is given for each. Military mission reports count as relevant only when they describe anomalous manoeuvres or sensor signatures in detail. “Relevant” does not mean unexplained: when the document, or another official document, offers an explanation, we report it.
Titles, dates and places. Titles are those of the official files. Dates and places come from a public index of the documents (UAP Ledger), corrected wherever the PDF says otherwise; every difference is flagged in the document's note. We did not use UAP Ledger's AI-written summaries as a source, and they do not appear here.
Map. The places on the map come only from the text of the documents, never from the index: for each point we give the document, the page and the exact words.
Translation. This dossier was written in Italian and translated; the quotes stay in the original English.
The classification is an editorial judgement and may contain mistakes: you can report them in the Corrections section. Alien Watch's general method is explained on the Method and reports page.
Strongest cases
The 20 relevant documents with the most solid data, in order. For each: the exact quote with its page, why it matters and, where there is one, the official explanation.

Map of the cases
Where the 64 relevant documents take place, according to the documents themselves. A document goes on the map only if its text names a specific place (a town, a base, an airport, a facility) or a 100 km square of the MGRS military grid; each point gives the document, the page and the exact words. The map shows 25 documents in 22 places; the other 39 give no usable location and are listed below.
